“A huge honour.”

Trócaire CEO Caoimhe de Barra has been honoured for her charity work with vulnerable women around the globe.

De Barra picked up the Services to Charity prize at this year’s Irish Women’s Awards.

The awards ceremony took place in Blanchardstown’s Crown Plaza Hotel this week to honour female entrepreneurs, businesswomen, professionals, civil servants, and charity workers who have worked to achieve greater gender equality.

De Barra said that she is very grateful to have been honoured for her tireless work with Trócaire, who last year supported 272,000 people through their Women’s Empowerment programme.

“It is a huge honour to receive this award,”she said.

“It is recognition of the incredible work done by women in the communities we work in around the world. Women are disproportionately affected by poverty and injustice so supporting women leaders in communities is central to Trócaire’s work.

“Around the world, women face huge risks in standing up for their rights and having their voices heard. I am accepting this award on behalf of the incredible women Trócaire works with.”

This is the second year that the Irish Women’s Awards has taken place.
