Ireland will be hotter than Athens tomorrow (and the weather keeps getting better)

Keeley Ryan

Or, well, some parts of the country will be.

For days, the forecast has predicted some truly amazing-sounding weather for most of the long weekend.

But it looks like our sunny days are going to be back even sooner, with some parts of Ireland set to be hotter than Athens tomorrow.

Yes, that’s right: Met Éireann are predicting temperatures as high as 19C in some parts of the country for Thursday (Athens’ current forecast is predicting 18C tomorrow, FYI).

A weather forecaster said Thursday will be dry, with sunny intervals developing. It will be warmer than it was today, particularly in the western half of the country.

The top temperatures will reach as high as 19C in some parts of the country.

Dry with patchy cloud and clear spells on Thursday night and lows of 7C to 10C, and a few misty patches may be possible.

The weather forecaster continued:

“Good Friday will be dry and warm with long spells of, at times hazy, spring sunshine. Top temperatures of 17C to 21C, but a few degrees cooler in the coastal fringes of the east and south.”

They added that it will be dry overnight, with cloud thickening in the west and northwest. The temperatures will drop to 6C to 10C.

Saturday will be another warm and mostly dry day with any early mist soon clearing.

The forecaster said:

“Long spells of hazy spring sunshine look likely to prevail through much of Leinster and Munster. Thicker cloud in Ulster and Connacht though, will produce some patchy rain or drizzle there by the end of the day.

“Top temperatures of 16C to 21C, but a few degrees cooler under the cloud in parts of west and northwest.

“Variable cloud amounts with patchy light rain, drizzle and mist extending southeastwards over the country, but occasional clear intervals occurring also. Temperature lows of 5C to 8C in the west and north, 9C to 11C further south and east.”

Things are going to take a bit of a turn on Easter Sunday – although it will still be somewhat warm.

It will be a cloudy day, with patchy rain or drizzle – ” but good dry periods also and perhaps some limited bright or sunny breaks occurring towards evening”.

The forecaster warned that it will be “cooler than recent days”, but the maximum temperatures will still be above average for this time of year at 13C to 16C.

Looking towards Monday, they said:

“A significantly cooler day seems likely with scattered showers feeding in off the Atlantic, as remaining rain in the east clears out.

“The timing of the clearance in the east is still uncertain at this stage. Daytime temperatures dropping back to around 9C to 11C n light to moderate southwest breezes.”
