Ireland’s getting another Ikea store and we’re not able

Best. News. Ever.

Happy days!

Folks living outside the capital will know the struggle of having to trek up to Dublin to make a trip to Ikea.

Whether you’re after a whole new suite for the living room or just a few bits and bobs for your bedroom there’s nothing like its simple Swedish design, but it can be a pain in the arse getting out to the store.

Well, not any more. At least, not for those of us living in the south.

Ikea is set to bring its next Irish store to Cork.

The furniture giant has been scouting for locations around the county and has reportedly designated Carrigtwohill in east Cork as a desired location for a new store.

The new location, only Ikea’s second full premises in Ireland, would mean up to 500 jobs for the area, reports the Irish Examiner.

We don’t yet have a date for when we might be able to visit Ikea in Cork as nothing is thought to be set in stone but negotiations are said to be “advanced” so hopefully we won’t have long to wait.

Ikea first landed on these shores in 2009 when it set up shop in Ballymun on the north side of Dublin.

The news of a Cork location comes after Ikea announced that it was launching an online store in Ireland earlier this month.
