The cruise ship is currently docked off the coast of San Fransisco.

Irish citizens are believed to be on cruise ship with 21 confirmed coronavirus cases.

According to RTÉ, there are a “number of” Irish citizens on board the cruise ship, that is currently moored off San Francisco.

It is also understood that one of the senior crew members is Irish.

The Department of Foreign Affairs issued a statement to RTÉ, which said: “The consulate in San Francisco is in touch with local authorities and monitoring the situation closely. It is the department’s policy in providing consular assistance that commentary is not given on individual cases and the people or families involved.”

JOE has reached out to the Department of Foreign Affairs for comment.

46 people were tested for coronavirus onboard the Grand Princess cruise ship, with 21 of them returning a positive result.

US vice president Mike Pence has said that the fate of its more than 3,500 passengers and crew from more than 50 countries remains unclear.

Pence has been tasked with looking after the international outbreak of the virus in America by Donald Trump.

As of now, there is very little detail as to where quarantined and sick passengers will be taken.
