An Irish man has died following a hit-and-run that occurred in Vancouver in Canada on Sunday night (19 June).

The city’s police have said that the 24-year-old was crossing West 4th Avenue at Arbutus Street at around 11.30pm with a friend when he was struck by a newer model grey sedan which appeared to be travelling at high speeds.

They also stated that the driver failed to stop and that the victim died at the scene.

The Collision Investigation Unit for the Vancouver Police Department (VPD) has already spoken to a number of witnesses to the hit-and-run.

However, anyone who saw the collision or has video of it and who has not yet come forward is urged to contact investigators right away.

“Police believe the vehicle was traveling east on 4th Avenue before the collision,” the VPD said in a statement.

“Businesses in the area, or anyone with dashcam video, are asked to review their footage and contact police if they have images of the suspect vehicle.

“Anyone with information is asked to call 604-717-3012.”

In a statement to JOE, a spokesperson for the Irish Department of Foreign Affairs said it is aware of the case and is providing “all possible consular assistance”.
