Controversy continues to swirl around Irish Water this week and it has now been revealed that the company have spent more than €81,000 per week on legal fees since its establishment.
The figures also show that the company has paid over €5 million to three Dublin law firms in the last year. The internal figures and the details of the spending have been released under the Freedom of Information Act and were published in The Irish Times.
The report shows that the money was spent as part of an overall €172.8 million spend in establishment costs - costs which, according to Alan Kelly Minister for the Environment, are “on a par” with the establishment of other companies of the same nature.
