An Irishman in his 30s has died in a diving accident abroad

An Irishman has died in a diving accident in Egypt, RTE reported on Saturday.

The accident occurred in the seas off Dahab. The man is believed to be in his 30s and from Dublin.

The Department of Foreign Affairs are aware of the case and are offering consular assistance.

Dahab is a small fishing town on the southeast coast of the Sinai Peninsula in Egypt.

It is located around 80km northeast of Sharm el-Sheikh. It is considered to one of the best diving spots in the world and became popular with tourists from the 1980s.
