The Islamic State has reportedly claimed responsibility for the attack in Berlin which left 12 people dead.

The suspect, who denied involvement in the incident, reportedly matched descriptions provided by witnesses to the attack. However, German publication Die Welt reports that Berlin police believe the "wrong man" was arrested and that the perpetrator remains at large and possibly armed. Sky News carries quotes from Klaus Kandt, Berlin's police chief, who urges locals to remain vigilant amid the news that the person behind the attack - which took place at the city's Christmas market - may still be loose in the city. "It is the case that we may have a dangerous criminal in the area and that of course makes the public nervous," Kandt said. "We have to think that the person who was arrested yesterday, a man of Pakistani nationality, we have to be open to the idea that he could possibly not have been the attacker."
