Stephanie’s legal representation also claimed that the attack happened as the mum cradled her eight-week-old son. Jeremy’s legal team denied the claims.
According to The Daily Mail, the court took a break during today’s proceedings after Stephanie began crying in the witness stand as Jeremy laughed at her statement.
The pair were said to have screamed at each other throughout the proceedings, which led the judge describing both their behaviours as unacceptable.
“This is a sad story,” the judge said as she delivered her verdict. “It’s about what happened when a relationship has broken down.”The judge went on to say that Stephanie’s account of the incident was clear and consistent with her injuries and the statements given by her mother and aunt. She said that while McConnell seemed to want to believe his actions were purely to defend himself, however, she believed they were a result of drugs and alcohol use. Jeremy had admitted to sharing a bag of cocaine with his friends on the night of the attack. He is due to be sentenced on Friday, with the judge telling him there is the possibility of a custodial sentence.
