Joe Biden has won the most votes of any US Presidential candidate in history, and yet, the winner of this year’s election can’t be called just yet.
According to Associate Press, Biden has already amassed a running total of over 69,600,000. President Obama won with 69,498,516 during his first run in 2008 – the highest amount of votes ever recorded for a candidate at the time.
Although the leads are, at the time of writing, still too close to call, if Biden can manage to hold onto certain states, it will look likely enough that America will have its new president.
This comes after current president Donald Trump incorrectly announced earlier today that he had already won the election.
Dubbing the election, “a fraud on the American public,” he called for all ballot counting to be stopped immediately. He also claimed that he had won the election, which at the time, he had not.
“This is an embarrassment to our country,” he said. “We were getting ready to win this election. Frankly, we did win this election.”
He later added that he thought it was “VERY STRANGE” that he had been leading in key states last night, only to have Biden overtake him today.
