An investigation is ongoing.

K-pop star Goo Hara has been found dead in her home.

The 28-year-old singer and former member of band Kara was discovered in her home near Seoul, South Korea this weekend.

Gangnam Police Department confirmed the news today, saying that they had responded to a call this evening local time.

“We received a report on November 24, 6:30 pm KST about a death,” they said in a statement. “We are currently investigating the cause.”

BBC’s Seoul correspondent Laura Bicker also confirmed Hara’s passing on Twitter.

“The South Korean celebrity Goo Ha-ra, a former member of popular K-pop girl group Kara has been found dead at her home,” she wrote.

“The 28-year-old was found dead around 6pm. We are awaiting more details. So sad.”

Hara, real name Goo Ha-ra, was a member of popular K-pop group Kara from 2008 to 2015. She later left the band to pursue her solo career, releasing music as well as appearing in many films and TV shows.

Variety reports that Hara attempted suicide earlier this year following an attempted blackmail by an ex-partner. She was subsequently dropped from her label.

Hara signed a new contract with a Japanese label and recently announced her return to music.

She released her comeback single, ‘Midnight Queen,’ earlier this month.

The investigation into Hara’s death is ongoing.
