Katy Perry turned 41 this week, and to celebrate, she decided to hurl an entire birthday cake across the room while her politician boyfriend, former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, looks on.
In a video posted to Instagram on Tuesday, the singer can be seen celebrating backstage during her Lifetimes tour, per The Mirror.
After the I Kissed a Girl singer blows out the candles on her cake, Katy picks up the cake and launches it at a crew member.
Fortunately for him, the crew member has great reflexes and ducks just in time to dodge the flying dessert, as it splats on the floor behind him.
Perry watched, pleased with herself, as her dancers approached the cake crime scene and began picking up handfuls to eat.
The whole thing had a slight 'let them eat cake' undertone to it to say the least.
In the background, Trudeau can be seen taking in the scene before him. Leave it to a politician to remain calm and collected throughout a scandal.
The footage quickly circulated on Instagram and TikTok, and people had a lot to say.
One user, who appears to be the daughter of the baker who made the cake, wrote: "My mom was the one who baked this cake, she was so excited about the opportunity to make a cake for Katy Perry and spent so long on it.
"I’m genuinely confused and upset as to why she would do this."
Another commented: "Katy Perry’s team surprised her with a birthday cake and she straight up threw the whole thing at someone, wasting it all… this woman is actually pathetic."
Others took a jab at Perry's alleged lack of self-awareness, with one person writing: "A grown 41-year-old woman not caring about the person who will clean up her mess & the person who put hard work into making that cake."
And there's an array of people pointing out the obvious: "Katy Perry is so cringe. Everything she does is so cringe. This is one of those cringe things she does. Why do you throw that cake and ask your workers to eat the cake that is already on the floor?"
However, some people do come to Katy's defence, trying to see the humour in the situation, with one writing: "Her missing the target made me genuinely laugh."
While others just deem the entire situation as a non-issue.
"This is not an issue. Katy can do what ever she wants with the food she bought," one person wrote.
Someone else added: "Once paid for, whoever bought the cake and do whatever they want with it."
