As a nation, we’re known for our love of a few drinks every now and then, but a new survey has revealed that this love could be gradually fading.
The Irish Daily Star reports that the Irish public feels that the amount of drinking done in the country is too high and wants the Government to take action.
An IPSOS/MRBI survey which was carried out for the Health Research Board, discovered that 85 per cent of us believe that there is too much drinking in Ireland, and 78 per cent believe that the Government needs to implement some new measures to address the problem.
“Successive governments have allowed the vested interests of the drinks industry to dictate alcohol policy,” said James Doorley, the assistant director of the National Youth Council of Ireland.
“It is clear that the majority of the public support reasonable measures to address alcohol misuse and protect young people from alcohol-related harm and are unhappy with the lack of action by the state,” he added.
What do you think? Do you think that we drink too much in Ireland? Do you believe that the Government should be doing something about it?
