Bill Withers, singer and songwriter, has passed away.

The 81-year-old died from heart complications, according to reports today.

His songs have stood the test of time with titles like Ain’t No Sunshine and Lean On Me proving classics that have been passed through the years.

His loved ones say they hope his music will bring comfort to others during these very testing times.

Their official statement reads:

“We are devastated by the loss of our beloved, devoted husband and father. A solitary man with a heart driven to connect to the world at large, with his poetry and music, he spoke honestly to people and connected them to each other.

“As private a life as he lived close to intimate family and friends, his music forever belongs to the world. In this difficult time, we pray his music offers comfort and entertainment as fans hold tight to loved ones”.

Some of his biggest hits were released during the 1970s and he retired from the industry in the late 80s.

The three-time Grammy Award winner was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2015.
