#Covid-19: International travel to return for countries where curve has been flattened

Just don’t go booking your holiers yet.

International travel for countries where the Covid-19 curve has been flattened is set to return in a number of weeks.

Minister for Business, Enterprise and Innovation Heather Humphreys said today that the government expects Irish people will be able to travel abroad safely soon.

This limited international travel is expected to cover countries where the coronavirus curve has been sufficiently “flattened” as it has been in Ireland.

Speaking on RTÉ’s Morning Ireland, Minister Humphreys said that the government plans to reintroduce air travel through “airbridges” – a means of ensuring that people are only travelling to other counties with low virus reproduction rates.

She did add, however, that people should not start booking flights yet as the plans need to be finalised.

An update on the reopening of Ireland’s economy ahead of Phase Two is due later today.

It is expected that Phase Two will permit people to travel anywhere within their county, rather than just within their 20km radius.

Small stores and businesses that can successful implement social distancing measures will also be opening from next week.
