An unnamed advertising executive at the local paper told media that the ad had been previously scheduled, but the mistake had been merely ‘unfortunate timing’.
Following the mass distribution to the town in the wake of the horror shooting, the Post and Courier apologised on Facebook, posting:
‘The front-page sticky note that was attached to some home delivery newspapers on the same day as this tragedy is a deeply regrettable coincidence. We apologise to those who were offended.’Explore more on these topics:
