Dublin Lord Mayor Hazel Chu sets up Covid awards for frontline workers

A fantastic idea!

Over the last year many frontline workers, whether in the area of healthcare, transport, retail or volunteering, have gone above and beyond to help get us all through the various stages of lockdown.

Now it’s time that we pay them back for their great services.

Lord Mayor of Dublin, Hazel Chu, is kicking off this year’s Dublin Lord Mayor’s Awards, but rather than have a one time annual award she will be hosting monthly awards from October to April.

Hazel posted to her Facebook page last night announcing the new monthly running of the awards.

“I’m kicking off this year’s Dublin Lord Mayor’s Awards. I’ve decided to dedicate them to frontline workers during Covid,” she wrote.

“So if you think you know a person or organisation that deserves to be nominated please read the post and follow the instructions. Nominations open at the start of each month for each category.

“Any questions drop me an email at [email protected]. And please share this post so more of our heroes can be nominated! Thank you.”

The first category of awards due to be given next month is Nursing Home Staff and Volunteers.

Nominations for this category will begin on October 1 and end October 16 so make sure to get your vote in for the person you know working in a nursing home that you think is most deserving of the award.

Other categories include Transport Staff (November), Hospital Services staff (December), Retail Staff (January), Emergency Services Staff (February), Hospital Medical Staff (March) and Community Workers and Volunteers (April).
