Maisie Smith and Max George make light of fake pregnancy backlash

People are angry..

Actress Maisie Smith and singer boyfriend Max George are attracting a lot of backlash the past few days following a “thoughtless” fake pregnancy joke that they posted on their Instagram page Monday.

Maisie posted an Instagram story of her and Max posing in the mirror appearing to be holding a baby bump but that area was covered with a large heart emoji.

They captioned it: “We’ve got some really exciting news.”

In the next picture posted on their story the heart emoji over Maisie’s ‘bump’ was replaced with the words: “I just had the best 5 course meal of my life.”

When followers realised it was all a hoax, the couple received a lot of trolling.

Fans said pregnancy shouldn’t be joked about and that they were “thoughtless” in their upload.

Last night, Max posted a photo of the pair on holidays enjoying two huge milkshakes.

He captioned it: “Never. Eating. Again”

Maisie re-shared it to her Instagram story and captioned it with a love heart emoji.

Fans think this was their way of responding to backlash from the controversial pregnancy post but they’re still to properly address it.

People have been quick to criticise the couple for their decision to joke about pregnancy.

Followers commented under their posts reminding them that “getting pregnant is difficult for some people” and it “should not be joked about”.

One follower wrote: “You’ve hurt many people, fans, with those thoughtless stories tonight. People who have lost children. People who cannot conceive for whatever reason. Please do better.”

Others seemed to be supportive and insisted that the post was “just a joke”.

One fan said: “It was a joke that lasted a few mins, it’s not that deep”.

This is not the first time the couple have been subject to trolling.

When they announced their relationship, people were bothered by the couple’s 13-year age gap so they had to deal with negative comments from the get go.
