Murder investigation underway after death of woman in Co. Antrim

The woman has been named as 64-year-old Alyson Nelson.

A man has been arrested following the murder of a woman in Co. Antrim.

The woman has been named as Alyson Nelson. She was 64-years-old.

As RTÉ reports, Ms Nelson was stabbed to death in her home in Whitehead, Co. Antrim at 6pm.

Police officers and paramedics were called to the scene after there were reports of suspicious activity. Ms Nelson was subsequently pronounced dead at the scene.

A man has been arrested and is currently being questioned by the PSNI.

In a statement, a PSNI detective said: “We received a report at around 6.10pm that a woman had been stabbed at a property in the Victoria Avenue area of Whitehead.

“Officers attended, along with colleagues from Northern Ireland Ambulance Service.

“Sadly, she was pronounced dead at the scene.

“A man in his 60s has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is currently in police custody.”

Anyone with information on the case has been asked by the PSNI to come forward.
