Man arrested over offensive tweet about Sir Captain Tom Moore

A man in Lanarkshire has been arrested over an offensive tweet about the recently deceased Captain Tom, Scottish police have confirmed

He will appear in court later this month.

A Scottish man has been arrested and charged over an allegedly offensive tweet about Captain Sir Tom Moore, as reported by The National.

The veteran passed away on February 2nd at the age of 100. The news of his passing prompted countless tributes on social media, hailing a ‘hero’, who inspired many throughout his life.

Moore was propelled to mainstream fame in 2020 when he raised over £30 million to support the NHS throughout the Covid-19 pandemic.

Three days after his passing, Lanarkshire police received a report relating to an allegedly offensive tweet about the army vet.

A 35-year-old man has been charged and will appear in court on February 17th.

A spokesman for the police force said: “On Friday we received a report of an offensive tweet about Sir Captain Tom Moore who died on Tuesday February 2.

“A 35-year-old man has subsequently been arrested and charged in connection with communication offences and is due to appear at Lanark Sheriff Court on Wednesday, February 17.”
