A man was shot yesterday in front of his son in a Sainsburys supermarket carpark in Bangor, Co Down.

Police have launched a murder investigation into the death of the 35-year-old man who was shot just a short time before 3pm in the Baloo Link area of Bangor.

After the incident he had been receiving help from medics but was reported to have died due to the inflicted injuries.

Police are following the line of inquiry linked to the murder of prominent loyalist Geordie Gilmore who died in March due to a Ulster Defence Association (UDA) feud.

According to the Irish Times, Superintendent Brian Kee said,

“It is beyond belief that the gunman shot the victim when he was out with his son.”

“This young boy witnessed everything and he will undoubtedly carry that memory for the rest of his life. We are very lucky that we are not also dealing with the death of his child today.”

Police have also urged witnesses to come forward.
