A man who filmed himself raping his wife as she slept has been jailed

A man has been jailed for repeatedly raping his wife while she slept.

The perpetrator, who is in his 30s, was found to have raped his wife multiple times while she was asleep in their bed. The victim told Newcastle Crown Court that she only became aware of the attacks when she looked at her husband's phone, and found videos of him raping her in an app called 'Video Locker.' In one of the videos, the man ejaculated onto his sleeping wife's face, and cleaned up before she woke. The Daily Mail reported that after the victim confronted her husband about the videos, he turned himself into the police. He then pled guilty to three counts of rape, one count of assault by penetration, one of sexual assault, and one of attempted rape. The couple had been together for over a decade. The victim of the attack has since said that the lives of her and her children have "completely turned upside down" since she became aware of her husband's actions.

"In March 2017, I discovered my husband had been sexually abusing me (...) I never thought he would be capable of doing what he did. He has completely fooled me. I never want to see him again."

The man was sentenced to jail for nine years and has been ordered to sign the Sex Offenders' Register.
