A 53-year-old convicted sex offender has been jailed for two years after being found guilty of the sexual assault of two young girls on Dublin’s Luas.

According to Breaking News, the man attacked the two teenagers as they made their way to a Rihanna concert in the 02 in 2011 and admitted to Gardaí that he deliberately travelled on the tram line “to touch young girls and get aroused”. He was subsequently identified on CCTV footage and was arrested three months later while attempting to board the Luas after a One Direction gig in the city.

John Daly from Cabra Park in Phibsborough was previously jailed for two years for the attempted rape and indecent assault of two young girls in the 1980s and for a violent sex attack on a 62-year-old woman on dates from 1997 to 1998.

The sentence was later increased to six years by the Court of Criminal Appeal and this week, Judge Mary Ellen Ring sentenced Mr Daly to a further four years, with two years suspended on strict conditions. She also noted there was an element of “planning and forethought” in the offence and that “Daly would have known there would be young females on the Luas at the time”.
