A man who killed his girlfriend’s two-year-old daughter by kicking her across a room has been jailed for life.
Last November Dean Harris (20) kicked Amina Agboola so hard that her liver was torn in two, Cambridge Crown Court heard.
The jury also heard that Harris, who initially told police that Amina had fallen off the toilet before later admitting to kicking her, lost his temper when the toddler soiled herself.
Paramedics found Amina lying “like a rag doll” at her home. She was treated at the scene but later died as a result of her injuries in hospital.
Harris, who had been going out with the two-year-old’s mother for five months, had been left with Amina despite warnings from social workers that he had a history of domestic violence.
The 20-year-old, who was found guilty of murder earlier this year, must serve a minimum of 17 years in jail. Amina’s mother, Sarah Racqueman (29), was cleared of causing or allowing Amina's death.
According to Sky News, Detective Inspector Alan Page of Cambridgeshire Police said: “This was a horrendous case.
“There can be no justification for using violence against any child and Harris will have to deal with the consequences of his actions for the rest of his life.
“While no sentence can ease the pain felt by Amina's family, hopefully they will now be able to start moving on with their lives”.
