Salma Hayek is the latest star to speak out about the gender pay gap, saying that “men do a lot less” but that they also feel entitled to ask for more.

The actor and producer was interviewed by digital magazine The EDIT, where she said that men are less demanding on themselves compared to women.

She also said that, despite this, men feel more entitled to ask for promotions in the workplace.

“Women work harder than men and are more demanding of themselves, yet they have the sensation they don’t do enough, and therefore they are less daring about asking for a better position or salary.”

Hayek is joining the likes of Emma Stone, Jennifer Lawrence, and Serena Williams – who have all weighed in on the gender pay disparity in Hollywood and beyond.

As it stands, the pay gap in the US sits at just under 20 percent for white women, with women of colour earning considerably less still.

Hayek said that the demands women face do not just end in the workplace, but extend to their personal lives and relationships too.

“It’s a horrible sensation. We’re not enough at work, we’re not enough for the guy who’s cheating on us, we’re not enough for our children who always want more of us, no matter what we give.”

The 50-year-old added that she hasn’t given exercise much thought over the past few years, despite the pressures that exist for women of all ages in the limelight.

“I will sometimes say, ‘I am 50 years old! Why do I have to look good?’,” she said.
