Ladies and gents, the weather this week is going to be baltic.
Met Eireann has warned of possible frost and snow as temperatures set to drop to -3 degrees.
The forecast reads:
“Very cold tonight with clear spells and further wintry showers with some snow accumulations on hills and mountains. Min. minus 2 to plus 1 Celsius, in fresh northwest winds with a risk of frost and icy patches. Winds moderating overland later.”
“Tomorrow will be still very cold, with below normal temperatures. Maximum values only 3 to 6 Celsius, A bright day, with sunny spells, but scattered showers also, some of hail and sleet, with a continuing risk of snow showers, mainly over high ground. Good dry periods in the East and South. Winds mostly moderate to fresh, west to northwest, decreasing light in the evening.”
Then the real cold sets in, with temperatures reaching -3 on Wednesday night.
“Wednesday night. Some rain and sleet skimming Southern counties early in the night and then clearing again. Elsewhere, clear spells and dry in most areas, but some wintry showers will occur, mainly in the northwest. Very cold overnight countrywide, with sharp or severe frost and icy stretches. Min. 0 to minus 3 Celsius with mostly light winds.”
“Thursday: Mostly dry and bright, with sunny spells but some scattered wintry showers continuing mainly in the North and Northwest. Cold, with maximum temperatures of 5 to 8 Celsius, in moderate or fresh West to Northwest breezes, backing Southwest and easing later.”
“Frost at first on Thursday night but turning cloudy during the night and on Friday morning as outbreaks of rain extends Northeastwards over the country, possibly falling as sleet with hill snow for a time in parts.”
“Turning somewhat drier and milder for a time Friday afternoon with max temps 9 or 10 degrees in Southerly breezes. Still some patchy rain around.”
“A spell of heavier and more persistent rain is likely to move in later Friday / Friday night. This will be followed by colder weather for the weekend with sunny spells and scattered wintry showers in cold blustery westerly winds, and with night-time frosts.”
