The latest update.

Earlier today, it was suggested that a second storm would head in Ireland’s direction this weekend.

Given the devastation caused by Storm Ophelia, claiming the lives of three people and causing widespread damage, this news caused major panic this morning.

However, Met Éireann has since given more information on the subject and at the moment, it’s not looking quite as bad as originally feared.

A statement shared on their Twitter account reads:

“Met Eireann currently has no national warnings in operation. Naming storms is a decision made jointly by Met Éireann on the basis of objective criteria. We continue to monitor upcoming weather events and will issue warnings if required”.

Speaking to The Irish Sun, forecaster Harm Luijkx said that that it is too early to describe the predicted weather conditions as a storm.

“We have not named any storm. There is a depression coming towards us but it is too early to call it a storm.

“It could move south. We will be keeping a close eye on it and we will issue a warning if there is a need to”.

Although in saying that, the national forecaster has emphasised that the latest update is subject to change and they will monitor the situation closely.

Three people were killed in Ireland during Storm Ophelia yesterday: Clare O’Neill (58), Michael Pike (31) and Fintan Goss (33).
