Take note if you’re on the roads this morning, a status yellow weather warning is in place.

If you were making an early commute to work today and had to do a double take, the answer is no, your eyes aren’t deceiving you, it’s really that difficult to see due to a thick blanket of fog that has engulfed the country.

On this note, Met Éireann has issued a status yellow fog warning for Ireland.

The warning states that: “Dense fog in many areas overnight and for a time on Thursday morning.”

The warning was issued at 10pm on Wednesday night and was valid from then until 11am on Thursday morning.

In terms of today’s forecast, the sheet of fog will be heavy in most areas at first, dense in places, clearing slowly during the morning.

Thankfully, it’s set to be dry in most areas, but mostly cloudy, with light rain or drizzle in places.

As for Thursday night, it’s expected to remain dry in most areas, but mostly cloudy and misty. However, the fog will become widespread again, especially in Munster and Leinster with the fog dense in places.

The northern and northwestern coastal areas are also expected to get some light rain and drizzle.
