Met Éireann issues 3 weather warnings for eight counties

If you've been waiting for the weather to pick up, it looks as though you're going to be waiting a bit longer...

Met Éireann has issued three status yellow weather warnings affecting eight counties as gusts are expected to reach up to 90km/h on Thursday.

The forecaster said conditions will be "unseasonably windy" on Thursday as south to southeast winds veering southwest will reach mean speeds of 40 to 50 km/h with gusts of up to 90 km/h.

Winds will be strongest along the west coast, as well as exposed and higher terrain and very rough seas are expected too.

A status yellow wind warning will be in place for Clare, Donegal, Galway, Leitrim, Sligo, and Mayo from 6am until 3pm.

Meanwhile, another warning will be in place in Kerry from 8am until 11am and a third warning will be in place in Cork from 9am until 1pm.

Met Éireann has also warned people in affected counties to be mindful of tents, awnings & outdoor furniture and to take care when in proximity of water, with seas set to be very rough and choppy conditions forecast for lakes.

Conditions are expected to continue unsettled through the rest of the week as Friday will be blustery again with strong winds.

There will also be sunny spells and showers with highest temperatures of between 16 and 20 degrees.

Saturday will see more sunny spells and showers across the northern half of the country. Conditions will remain cloudy further south with a spell of persistent rain moving up across Munster throughout the day.

Highest temperatures will reach between 16 and 19 degrees.

There is currently uncertainty in the forecast for Sunday's weather, however, there will likely be a mix of showers and dry spells, with overnight rain lingering in some parts of the country during the morning.

Highest temperatures will reach between 17 and 20 degrees generally.

Current indications for next week's weather suggest that a "northwesterly flow" will lead to some showers mixed with sunny spells for early next week as temperatures will remain similar to this week.
