Take note if you’re out and about.
After recently advising the public about the likelihood of a weather warning being issued due to Storm Ciara, Met Éireann has now confirmed the news.
To begin with, a status yellow wind warning has been issued for all of Ireland. The warning is valid from 9am on Saturday 8 February until 23.59pm on Sunday 9 February.
The warning states that on Saturday southerly winds will strengthen as they reach mean speeds of 50-65km/h with gusts reaching 90-110km/h.
A status yellow wind warning is also in place for Sunday too as the arrival of Storm Ciara (named by the UK Met Office) is set to produce very strong winds over Ireland with a risk of damaging gusts.
A combination of spring tides, high seas, and stormy conditions will result in an elevated risk of coastal flooding, especially along southern, western and northwestern coasts.
In terms of the rain, there’s also a status yellow rainfall warning in place for all of Ireland too.
That particular warning is in place from 12pm on Saturday 8 February until 3pm on Sunday 9 February.
On Saturday, Met Éireann has said that we should “expect a spell of heavy rain that will spread eastwards across the country on Saturday with 20-40mm expected, highest in the west and northwest.”
As for Sunday, another spell of heavy rain is due to arrive but it should clear, leaving squally and wintry showers. Another 20-40mm of rainfall is also likely.
There’s also a risk of localised flooding, especially over the western half of the country.
