Summer has clearly run its course
It seems that summer is truly behind us as Met Éireann issues weather warnings for four counties this evening (Sunday, 14 September), with drivers being warned of potentially hazardous travel conditions.
The end of the weekend is set to see plenty of rain and some strong winds, which will continue into the new week.
According to the national forecaster, the week will be unsettled with strong winds and spells of heavy rain, with the possibility of some thunder.
The counties which will be under a Status Yellow wind warning from 9 pm on Sunday until 6 am on Monday include Clare, Kerry, Galway, and Mayo.
There will be ‘strong and gusty westerly winds’, which will cause difficult travelling conditions and debris on the roads as per Met Éireann.
Today will see rain spreading northeastwards across the country throughout the morning, which could escalate into heavier spells in some places.
Fortunately, in the afternoon, there is expected to be a clearance from the rain and a chance for the sun to come through before some of the showers turn heavy and thundery in the west and northwest.
Met Éireann forecasts a wet night, heaviest in the north and west, leading into a breezy Monday morning with widespread showers and some strong gusty winds.
The forecaster also warns of potential flooding.
The rain could clear up for some areas on Monday afternoon, with Tuesday starting dry and sunny before rain spreads northeastwards throughout the day.
As for now, current indications indicate Wednesday and Thursday to be dry for the most part with some isolated showers of rain, however, the weather will take a turn on Friday with spells of showery rains from midmorning.
