Met Éireann has promised a big change in the weather this week

Ah christ...

Ah christ…

The current spell of blazing heat was always going to end. We just didn’t want to say goodbye so soon.

Met Éireann has said that we can expect an unsettled week ahead, and temperatures will fall from their lofty perch in the 20s down to the high-teens.

Monday will be rather cloudy but there’ll be sunny spells and it will be a largely dry day, with just isolated showers and most of these in the northwest.

As we move on to Tuesday, it will be more of the same. A generally dry day with sunny spells and light northerly winds. Once again there may be isolated light showers, these showers will mostly affect the west and northwest but they could potentially fall anywhere. Temperatures will still be a warm 17 to 21 degrees.

Wednesday is where the big changes will come as strong southerly winds will bring rain across the country in the afternoon starting from the west and speaking to the east of the country by night time.  Temperatures will be around 16 to 18 degrees, so basically that sticky uncomfortable weather where you’re sweating under your rain jacket.

The rain will continue for many on Wednesday night, turning heavy in the north of the country for a time.

Thursday looks, so far, like being a mixed bag with sunny spells mixed in with showers.
