Michael Ryan, yoga teacher to President Michael D. Higgins, is giving an online class on Saturday and it’s for a fantastic cause.

It’s €5 to join the class and all proceeds will be donated to Childline.

Organised by event company Happenings, temporarily renamed Gappenings, the aim is to help drive support and fundraise for Irish charities.

Founder of Gappenings Peter O’Brien says the events are being organised to maintain the wellbeing of the public during this time while also helping vulnerable children.

“It’s about minding the gap and keeping a safe distance to protect yourself, your friends and family. We wanted to do something during this unprecedented downtime that will keep people active while calming their mind.

“Childline has been experiencing a sharp increase in calls from children who are struggling in their domestic situation at this time so we have chosen them as the charity to benefit from this event”.

Gappenings plan to continue streaming a class each week while the lockdown continues, with these led by experienced yoga teachers.

Leading the very first one is Michael Ryan, who has been working with Michael D. Higgins for ten years.

It starts at 11am on Saturday, April 4 and you can find out more here.
