Michelle Obama says she will ‘never forgive’ Donald Trump in her upcoming memoir

Michelle Obama’s upcoming memoir, Becoming, is due out Tuesday.

Former first lady Michelle Obama writes that she will “never forgive” Donald Trump for putting her “family’s safety at risk” in her upcoming memoir, Becoming.

Ahead of the book’s release on Tuesday, a Washington Post review has revealed that Obama makes damning criticism of the current US president, saying that the “dangerous” conspiracy that claimed Barack Obama was not born in America could have endangered her family’s safety.

“The whole [birther] thing was crazy and mean-spirited, of course, its underlying bigotry and xenophobia hardly concealed,” Obama writes in her memoir. “But it was also dangerous, deliberately meant to stir up the wingnuts and kooks.”

She adds: “What if someone with an unstable mind loaded a gun and drove to Washington. What if that person went looking for our girls? Donald Trump, with his loud and reckless innuendos, was putting my family’s safety at risk. And for this I’d never forgive him.”

Prior to his becoming president, Trump repeatedly used social media to question the authenticity of Barack Obama’s birth certificate, a matter that was put to rest in 2016 when he conceded he was wrong following a long form copy of the document being released.

Trump responded to Michelle Obama’s remarks on Friday morning, telling reporters: “She got paid a lot of money to write a book and they always expect a little controversy.”

He added that he would never forgive her husband “for what he did to our US military”.

As part of the book’s publicity tour, Michelle Obama has also revealed how she felt “lost and alone” after suffering a miscarriage 20 years ago and that she underwent vitro fertilisation to conceive her two daughters.

“I felt like I failed because I didn’t know how common miscarriages were, because we don’t talk about them,” she told ABC’s Good Morning America breakfast show.

“We sit in our own pain, thinking that somehow we’re broken.”
