A pet parrot that has been missing for four years has finally been reunited with its owner – but is now speaking in Spanish.
Nigel the parrot originally spoke with a British accent when it disappeared from its home in 2010. Now, he has been reunited with his owner, Darren Chick, thanks to a California vet who thought that Nigel was her own missing parrot.
Veterinarian Teresa Micco tracked Nigel’s microchip to his owner and she explained that when she told owner Darren Chick that she had his African grey parrot, he thought she was crazy.
Nobody is sure what adventures Nigel got up to during his four-year absence, but Darren revealed that Nigel’s British accent is definitely gone and he now chatters away in Spanish.
He also added that the reunion with his pet bird last week brought tears ofjoy to his eyes - even though Nigel tried to bite him at first!
“He’s doing perfect,” Darren told newspapers at the weekend. “It’s really weird. I knew it was him from the minute I saw him.”
Meanwhile, Julissa Sperling, who found Nigel and brought him to Micco the vet, also spoke about the unusual incident.
“He was the happiest bird. He was singing and talking without control,” she said. “He was barking like the dogs..and he was saying, ‘What happened?’ in Spanish."
