“That money could have saved lives elsewhere” – social media reacts to Brooklyn and Nicola’s wedding

It was a three-day, no-expenses-spared affair.

This past weekend,  Brooklyn Beckham, 23, son of David and Victoria Beckham, married his girlfriend of two years, actress and heiress, Nicola Peltz, 27, daughter of billionaire businessman Nelson Peltz and model Claudia Heffner.

The wedding took place in Palm Beach, Florida, at the luxury beachfront estate of Nicola’s family. According to reports, the newlyweds said ‘I do’ on a stage garlanded with flowers and plants in a huge marquee at the Peltz’ ocean-side family estate. There was a limitless bar with free-for-all bottles of Bollinger Champagne, a celebrity-studded guest list and the happy couple were showered with luxury gifts, among them a blue vintage electric Jaguar to cruise around in.

All in all, it was a wedding that made most other weddings look simple and pared down by comparison.

However, the $3.5million (£2.7m) price tag the wedding apparently ended up costing has raised some eyebrows, and many have taken to social media to express their opinions on the excessive show of wealth, with a large proportion suggesting the money would have been better spent on helping those in genuine need.

Others found the wedding in bad taste as the rest of the world is currently facing a cost of living crisis not seen in decades.

Many cited the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine or the COVID-19 pandemic.

Others again made fun of the fact that both Brooklyn and Nicola are only famous due to their parents, and have, in fact, not accomplished all that much on their own.

And some called the whole wedding a show off.
