Heartbreaking.

A mother in Wisconsin has tragically died after she was protecting her son from brutal dog attack that left her fighting for her life.

Heather Pingel’s four year old son fell down the stairs to which the family’s pit bull attacked, turning aggressive and biting her son’s leg.

Rushing to her son’s rescue, Heather was then attacked by the dog and left terribly injured and leaving her to get both arms amputated.

Police were called to the scene of the incident, finding her body bloodied and she was rushed to hospital in a critical condition.

Heather tragically died two days after being brought to hospital, suffering from kidney failure and complications with the amputations.

Heather was first discovered by her fiance, who took the dog outside and shot it after also being bitten while doing so.

According to police, the dog had been abused by a previous owner and was known to become aggressive in the past.

Pingel’s sister, Shannon, has since launched a GoFundMe to help the family with paying the medical bills and funeral and gave an update on her nephew, writing: “He is doing good alot of stitches but nothing to [sic] serious,” adding her sister is “nothing but a hero” for what she did.

“I’m going to miss how wonderful she was as a mother,” Shannon later said in a statement. “She did anything and everything for her two kids. She was a stay at home who loved her job. And her kids adore her. I’m going to miss calling her and asking when she was going to be here… because she was always running late. I’m just going to miss everything about her.”

Her cousin, Jennifer Person, also praised the late mother, saying: “She was just a wonderful person. So kind and loving. She was always there to help people whenever she could. Her kids were everything to her. She loved them so fiercely, as she demonstrated by giving her life so her son would survive.”
