She saved her son from drowning after he got into difficulty in east Cork on Sunday afternoon.
Tributes have been pouring in following the death of a mum-of-two in Cork. 34-year-old Joanna Wisniowska has been identified as the mum who heroically saved her son's life after he got into difficulty at Ballycroneen Beach.
Joanna's 10-year-old son was playing in the water at the east Cork beach when he got into difficulty. The mum managed to get her son to safety, but she was swept underwater by a rip current moments after saving her child.
Emergency services were alerted and rushed her to Cork University Hospital, but the brave mum sadly didn't make it. She was pronounced dead at the hospital shortly after.
Her 10-year-old son was also taken to hospital, but his injuries are non-life threatening.
The local community is said to be in immense shock following the tragic event. Her loved ones are "deeply saddened" following her untimely passing.
Joanna, who was originally from Strzyzow in Poland, had been living in Cloyne, east Cork for several years.
She is survived by her husband and their two children, according to The Independent.
