Mother Facing Murder Trial After Setting Her Baby On Fire In The Middle Of The Road
A woman in the US has been charged with murder after setting fire to her own child.
The 22-year-old was arrested in New Jersey on Friday night after police responded to a call reporting a fire in the middle of a residential road.
When they arrived, they found a baby in flames and extinguished the fire. While the child was alive and breathing on their arrival, she died two hours later at a Philadelphia hospital.
A witness said he had seen the woman set something alight in the road and she had claimed it was "dog waste". She appeared calm and tried to flee but was held by local residents.
She has since been named as Hyphernkemberly Dorvilier of Pemberton Township and police believe that she doused the baby in accelerant before starting the fire.
Dorvilier now faces murder charges and has been imprisoned on $500,000 bail.
