The mother of three-year-old Mikaeel Kular has pleaded guilty to culpable homicide.
Mikaeel was reported missing from his home in Edinburgh in January, claims that sparked a major police search of the area. Hundreds of volunteers joined the search also. Two days later, his body was found in woodland 20 miles from his home.
At this time, Mikaeel's mother Rosdeep Adekoya, 34, claimed he had disappeared from the family home overnight.
Rosdeep was charged with murder, but today pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of culpable homicide at the high court in Edinburgh.
The boy's mother was accused of punching him on multiple occasions before he was reported missing, causing blunt force trauma injuries. Prosecutors said she wrapped the child in a duvet, put his body in a suitcase and drove him to a house where the family used to live with a relative, before burying him in woodland nearby.
The court heard that the woman's internet history showed searches for "I find it hard to love my son", "I love all of my children except one", "Why am I so aggressive with my son" and "Get rid of bruises".
When his body was located, Mikaeel had over 40 injuries to his body, including bruises to his back, chin and cheek, a haemorrhage in his spinal cord and and trauma to the brain.
Rosdeep is due to be sentenced on August 25th.
