Multiple people were rushed to hospital after the plane came down on Brethren Village Retirement Community in Mannheim Township, Pennsylvania.
Five people were confirmed to have been passengers on the six seater Beechcraft aircraft when the crash occurred.
The plane took off from Lancaster Airport and was heading to Springfield, Ohio when came down.
Emergency services attended the scene, photo's of which showed thick black smoke in the air.
Local reports have suggested the plane lost power shortly after take-off.
An online emergency update on the incident read: "Multiple Casualty Incident declared, 500 airport road in Manheim Township in Lancaster County. EMS (Emergency Medical Services) with a plane down, on fire, several autos on fire as well.
"Multiple patients including burn victims.”
Pennsylvania state Governor, Josh Shapiro, commented on the crash via X: "PA State Police is on the ground assisting local first responders following the small private plane crash near Lancaster Airport in Manheim Township.
"All Commonwealth resources are available as the response continues, and more information will be provided as it becomes available."
The crash is the latest of multiple aviation disasters in the US this year, with fears of flying growing amongst the public.
