A make-up artist who is a YouTube sensation is speaking out and fronting a new campaign against domestic violence.
Lauren Luke has just released a new video on her YouTube channel entitled “How to Look Your Best the Morning After.” In the video, Lauren appears with a black eye and a split lip. Throughout the video she advises her audience on how to cover up bruises with foundation.
“I know it might hurt, just try your best,” Lauren tells her viewers as she dabs foundation onto her black eye.
She talks about how to deal with bruising that is caused from being pushed too hard against the coffee table and then tells viewers that they can use “concealer to cover any splits caused by watches or rings.”
Needless to say, it is very obvious from Ms Luke’s tone of voice that her bruises have been inflicted by an abusive partner.
“The bruising on my face for the video wasn’t real but my emotions in that video were because I had a bad experience in the past with a previous boyfriend,” said Ms Luke, speaking to Sky News.
“He never physically hurt me but I did sometimes fear what would happen next if I said the wrong thing. He could be overprotective and embarrass me in front of my work colleagues or friends because of his aggressive behaviour,” she added.
At the end of the YouTube video, viewers hear the front door in Lauren’s house slam and she quickly gives the camera a terrified look before turning it off. The screen goes black and the following words flash up: “65 per cent of women who suffer domestic violence keep it hidden. Don’t cover it up.”
This video is not easy watching, but it is an excellent campaign that we’re sure will raise a lot of awareness in the coming weeks.
