A new weather warning has been issued for 15 counties

A new weather warning has been issued for 15 counties ahead of a “cold and blustery” St Patrick’s Day weekend.

The status yellow rainfall warning has been issued for Galway, Leitrim, Mayo, Roscommon, Sligo, Longford, Offaly, Westmeath, Cavan, Monaghan, Clare, Cork, Kerry, Limerick and Tipperary.

It will come into effect at 9pm on Friday, March 15 until noon on Saturday, March 16.

According to weather forecasters, “very heavy rain” will develop overnight and into Saturday with spot flooding, 25 to 35 mm expected.

The rain may turn to snow for parts of the time.

The news comes a day after another weather warning – this time, for one county -was issued for Saturday.

The status yellow snow-ice warning covers Donegal, and will come into effect just after midnight on Saturday. It will end at noon on the same day.

As for the rest of the forecast, Met Éireann are predicting a “cold and breezy” Saturday night, with clear spells and scattered showers (some of which may be wintry).

Hail and thunder are possible near Atlantic coasts, with temperatures dropping as low as -1C.

It is looking to be a “cold and blustery” St Patrick’s Day, with sunny spells and passing showers – some with hail and thunder.

Temperatures will range between 7C and 9C, with showers retreating to Atlantic coastal areas on Sunday night. They will drop to 1C to 4C overnight.

On Monday, a “rather cloudy day” is forecast with scattered patches of light rain and drizzle. Temperatures of 8C to 11C in moderate westerly winds. It will stay “mostly cloudy” overnight with a few spots of rain and drizzle.
