A new weather has been issued as Storm Christophe passes over Ireland.
Met Éireann issued a fresh status yellow rainfall warning for Donegal today, valid from 110am until 9pm tonight.
This follows the same warning which has already been issued for all of Connacht, Longford, Louth, Westmeath, Meath, Cavan and Monaghan. This warning was issued over the weekend and is also valid until this evening.
Atlantic weather event Storm Christophe will pass over Ireland later today. The country is thankfully expected to avoid the worst of the storm, but there is still a likelihood of spot flooding and flash floods on higher ground across the west and midlands.
“Heavy rainfall will lead to accumulations of 30 to 50mm, with higher accumulations in mountainous areas,” said Met Éireann. “This will bring a risk of some river and localised flooding.”
A major incident has already been declared in some parts of the UK as some areas of the country could receive up to 200mm of rainfall on higher ground today.
South Yorkshire declared the incident today in preparation for potential flooding, while an amber weather alert was issued for central northern England.
Ros Jones, mayor of Doncaster, said that emergency protocols including sandbags have been administered sinc the weekend. “I do not want people to panic, but flooding is possible so please be prepared,” she said.
