This is the second time she’s done so.
A politician in New Zealand gave birth just one hour after cycling to the hospital this weekend.
Green Party MP Julie Anne Genter was already in labour when she hopped on her bike and headed to the hospital in the early hours of Sunday morning.
“I genuinely wasn’t planning to cycle in labour, but it did end up happening,” she wrote in a social media post announcing the birth.
Her daughter was born just after 3am, around an hour after leaving for the hospital.
“My contractions weren’t that bad when we left at 2am to go to the hospital – though they were 2-3 min apart and picking up in intensity by the time we arrived 10 minutes later,” the post continued.
“Amazingly now we have a healthy, happy little one sleeping, as is her dad.”

This isn’t the first time Genter, a dual citizen who was born in the US and moved to New Zealand in 2006, cycled herself to hospital prior to giving birth.
She also did it ahead of delivering her first child, a son, in 2018.
“Beautiful Sunday morning for a bike ride, to the hospital, for an induction to finally have this baby,” she wrote at the time, alongside some pictures of her 42-week bump with a bike.
