Newborn needs 13 face stitches after being cut during emergency C-section

Laura Cunningham

“I’ve never heard of anybody having to deal with their baby’s face looking like this after a C-section.”

A baby delivered via emergency cesarean section was left badly cut in Denver, Colorado last week.

Reazjhana Williams planned to have her baby naturally, but complications meant she was soon being assisted to theatre for a C-section.

During the procedure, Kyanni’s face suffered a deep cut, as Reazjhana explained to CafeMom: “They said her face was close to the placenta wall. I tried to be understanding about what happened. There’s just a lot of things I’m not understanding with the C-section. I’ve never heard of anybody having to deal with their baby’s face looking like this after a C-section.”

It took 13 stitches to sew together Kyanni’s face after what is a very rare occurrence during this type of delivery.

According to medical journal Obstetrics & Gynecology, out of a “total of 37,110 cesarean deliveries” from January 1, 1999 to December 31, 2000, about “418 (1.1%) had an identified fetal injury. The most common injury was skin laceration.”

The family are understandably deeply upset and have set up a GoFundMe to raise funds for legal help with the issue.
