Nine injured after falling from truck in Enniskerry, Co Wicklow

Nine people have been injured after falling from the back of a truck in Enniskerry, Co. Wicklow.

The accident happened yesterday evening at approximately 6.30pm in Enniskerry Village when nine men fell from the back of a truck’s trailer.

The men had been celebrating the win of a GAA championship final when the incident occurred.

RTE reports that the injured were taken to Tallaght and St Vincent’s University Hospitals for treatment. Their situations are not said to be life-threatening.

Enniskerry GAA club has since issued a statement regarding the accident.

“There is no critical or life threatening injuries after tonight’s accident nor was there any deaths,” they wrote on Facebook.

“Some players have bad injuries but everyone will be fine. We’d appreciate if people could stop spreading false rumours and sharing videos.

“Thanks to all for your concern.”

A video of the incident has since been shared across various social media platforms. It depicts the men celebrating in the trailer before the barrier collapses sending them tumbling to the road.

Wicklow GAA club have also asked that members of the public refrain from sharing the video.

“Following an incident this evening a no. of players are receiving medical attention, however none of their injuries are critical,” they said.

“We would ask that people refrain from sharing videos of the incident out of for respect the injured parties.”

Minister for Health Simon Harris added that he is: “Thinking of those injured in Enniskerry and their families tonight.”

“Our entire community hopes and prays that everyone will be OK,” he said on Twitter.

Inquires into the incident are ongoing.
