The fire happened on Monday evening.

As we all know, the iconic Notre Dame cathedral in the French capital caught alight earlier this week.

Its spire collapsed after 7pm on Monday, when flames burst through the roof.

Thankfully, there were no reports of any casualties.

It was revealed today that it took staff 23 minutes to find the location of the fire, after the first alarm sounded.

The first alarm sounded at 6.20pm, and for more than 20 minutes, staff searched for a blaze.

It wasn’t until a second alarm went off at 6.43 p.m. that a fire was detected in the attic of the famous landmark.

Paris prosecutor Rémy Heitz laid out a timeline of Monday evening’s events, also citing the possible cause of the fire.

“We are favouring the theory of an accident,” he said, explaining that the investigation into the accident would be “long” and “complex.”

French president, Emmanuel Macron has promised to rebuild Notre Dame, because it’s what its history “deserves.”

According to BBC, the president said that the “worst had been avoided” and he will soon launch a fundraising scheme for its reconstruction.

“We’ll rebuild this cathedral all together and it’s undoubtedly part of the French destiny and the project we’ll have for the coming years,” said Mr Macron.

“That’s what the French expect, because it’s what our history deserves.”

According to reports, French billionaire Bernard Arnault’s family and his LVMH luxury goods group have donated €200 million to help repair Paris’ Notre Dame Cathedral.

A statement says:

“The Arnault family and the LVMH group would like to show their solidarity at a this time of national tragedy, and are joining up to help rebuild this extraordinary cathedral, which is a symbol of France, of its heritage and of French unity.”
