A nurse in the UK has been charged with eight counts of murder and 10 counts of attempted murder in connection to several cases of baby deaths in a hospital in Cheshire, England. Lucy Letby, 30, was rearrested this week and charged in relation to the deaths. She is due to appear in court today. Local authorities said Letby is currently being held in police custody. "The Crown Prosecution Service has authorised Cheshire Police to charge a healthcare professional with murder in connection with an ongoing investigation into a number of baby deaths at the Countess of Chester Hospital," reads a statement. "Lucy Letby, of Arran Avenue, Hereford, is facing eight charges of murder and 10 charges of attempted murder. The charges relate to the period of June 2015 to June 2016. "The 30-year-old was re-arrested on Tuesday, 10 November, and has since subsequently been charged. "She has been held in custody and is due to appear at Warrington Magistrates' Court on Thursday, 12 November." This comes after an investigation was initially launched into baby deaths at the Countess of Cheshire Hospital in 2017. Police was originally concerned with the deaths of 15 babies between June 2015 and June 2016, before the investigation was expanded to include 17 deaths and 16 non-fatal collapses. Letby worked as a student nurse in the hospital for three years before graduating to become a children's nurse. She was arrested first in 2018 and later again in 2019. She received bail at the time pending further inquiries.
