The HSE has launched MyOptions.ie, its official information website on abortion services in Ireland.

MyOptions offers information and counselling on unplanned pregnancies.

The website also breaks down everything there is to know about abortion services in this country.

It goes into how and when one can have a termination, what happens after an abortion and the potential risks and side effects of an abortion.

The website states that abortions will be carried out for free here for those living in the Republic of Ireland but that non-residents will have to pay for abortion services.

A free MyOptions phone line will be operational from 1 January.

It comes after President Michael D. Higgins signed the bill to legalise abortion into law on Thursday.

Speaking earlier this month as the bill passed through both stages of the Oireachtas, Minister for Health Simon Harris said it was a “new era” in women’s healthcare in Ireland.

“This is a genuinely historic moment. It paves the way for the implementation of the service for termination of pregnancy in January 2019,” he said.

“The passage of the legislation allows for the beginning of a new journey. It is the start of a new era for women’s healthcare.”
